Message for SCNB's skating family
At the onset of the easing of restrictions, SCNB knew and strongly believed that safety is the most important aspect for the return to skating. We are now concerned about the increase of Covid-19 cases in the province of NB which have resulted in two (2) regions (zones) being placed in the orange phase of recovery. Contrary to the last orange phase restrictions, arenas can remain in operation. Consequently, SCNB is providing the following guidance.
- Clubs in an orange phase region:
- UPDATE your operational plan. Changes were made on November 20th and posted as soon as we were informed. Of importance, are
- Changes in the screening processes
- Coaches and choreographers must ALWAYS wear masks.
- Synchronized skating returns to phase 1, which has been revised.
- Even though you can operate, it does not mean that you should. Please review your numbers and ensure that physical distancing is maintained at all times. If some program(s) cannot be operated because distancing can not be guaranteed, you might want to consider pausing the program for the time being.
- Speak with your facility representatives to ensure that you are following the proper guidelines.
- Guest skating is not allowed.

SCNB often offers quotes in its newsletter. In keeping with this tradition, please consider the following from our provincial government leaders on November 21 https://www2.gnb.ca/content/gnb/en/corporate/promo/covid-19/news/news_release.2020.11.0624.html.
“What is happening in our province, with the rapidly rising number of active cases, shows just how fragile our bubble is,” said Premier Blaine Higgs. “This is a critical time for our province, but we can still turn this around. We need everyone – employers, businesses and residents alike – to do what is right for themselves and everyone.”
“We know most are complying in public places, but some are letting their guard down – and that is leading to the situation we are in, but it’s not too late,” said Health Minister Dorothy Shephard. “We know what we need to do in order to turn this around.”
“We are facing a serious situation with the renewed transmission of the virus in New Brunswick,” said Dr. Jennifer Russell, chief medical officer of health. “Our situation will quickly turn grave if we do not take immediate actions to slow the spread of the disease.”
