Skate Canada New Brunswick (SCNB) is pleased to be able to offer the Active for Life Awards and Post-Secondary Bursaries. These are awarded on a yearly basis.
The SCNB Board will decide the winners and announce the recipients on our website and/or social media.
Active for Life Awards
Purpose
These awards are designed to encourage lifelong participation in figure skating. There are two awards: Competitive for Life and Fit for Life.
Applicant Eligibility
- A resident of New Brunswick and registered with a New Brunswick skating club/school during the current season.
- Previous winners may not apply.
Awards
Competitive for Life ($250): Athlete (19 and over) - regardless of program (excludes Podium Pathway athletes)
OR
Fit for Life ($250): A participant who remains active through:
- coaching
- officiating [judge/assessor (evaluator)/technical panel official, and/or data specialist]
Application Requirements
Applicants must submit:
- Completed application form
- Proof of program registration (athletes)
- Proof of Skate Canada registration
- Recent photo
- A brief statement on why you should be awarded the prize
- Are you active today?
- Please explain how you will remain involved in figure skating.
Deadline
Form and accompanying documents must be submitted by May 15th at the latest.
Note
If also applying for a Post Secondary Bursary, a separate application form must be sent.
Post-Secondary Bursaries
Purpose
These bursaries are designed to support Skate Canada New Brunswick (SCNB) participants pursuing post-secondary education. Two bursaries of $500 each, will be awarded annually.
Applicant Eligibility
- A permanent resident of New Brunswick.
- Must have been a member of a SCNB Club/School for over 5 years (provide proof).
- Must be enrolled or accepted into a recognized post-secondary institution.
- Applicant must be enrolled in post-secondary institution for the upcoming school year (provide proof).
- Previous applicants and winners may re-apply.
Community Involvement / Leadership
- Demonstrated commitment to volunteerism within their club, school and/or community.
- Program Assistant (PA) on CanSkate sessions - club must confirm that the applicant is currently an active PA.
- Provide a reference letter (cannot be family).
Personal Statement
Submit a 250–500 word essay outlining:
- Career goals and academic plans.
- How the bursary will support your education.
- Impact of your extracurricular/community involvement.
Reference Letters
Two letters of reference from either home club, teacher, coach, mentor, or community leader (cannot be family).
Required Documents
- Completed application form
- A recent photo
- Proof of registration with Skate Canada for over five (5) years.
- Proof of admission to a post-secondary institution
- Personal statement
- Letters of reference
Deadline
All application materials must be submitted by May 15th.
