Message for SCNB's skating family
Governing during a pandemic is not easy. Like you, we continue to monitor the situation and review and update our procedures as needed. At the end of the day, safety and minimizing risk are primordial.

The Sport Branch updated its FAQ and yesterday saw tighter restrictions for one region of our Section.

  • Question 2 now reads (for orange phase): A single team is defined as a pre-established group of individuals that has been getting together on a weekly regular/seasonal ongoing basis for their organized activity. The formation of new teams/groups/classes is only allowed for outdoor winter sport activities (eg. alpine and cross country skiing). The formation of new teams/groups/classes for indoor activities is not allowed in the Orange alert level.
  • Question 19: Change/locker rooms may remain open in pools, arenas and ski lodges but must have controlled access and a separate operational plan for the use of their locker rooms that follow all public health measures. (Note. “Controlled access” means someone (volunteer or employee) who makes sure public health measures are followed)
  • A reminder that social distancing is important and must be maintained during programming. Please review your programming to ensure that 2m physical distancing is maintained throughout the program.
  • Screening - please remind your members of the importance to not show up at activities if they have ANY symptom.
  • Clubs can adopt stricter requirements (or suspend their activities) if they feel it is required.
  • SCNB’s Region 1 clubs are in the red phase of recovery and cannot operate.

The number of cases being reported over the last 12 days is concerning. Please take the time to review your operational plan and make sure it meets current public health guidance . We thank you for your cooperation and patience.
