Message for SCNB's skating family As the whole province remains in the orange phase of recovery, we continue to encourage our skating family to follow the guidelines set forth by Public Health.

To quote Premier Higgs: "Not following rules is going to have consequences," "It's a must, people are dying. ... We have an opportunity to continue the great work we have done for the past 10 months, or we can lose it all.'

We would like to share the following and for clubs to update their Operational Plans as required.

  • The Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture’s Sport and Recreation Branch has updated its Covid-19 FAQ (https://www2.gnb.ca/content/dam/gnb/Departments/thc-tpc/pdf/SportRecreation-SportLoisirs/Covid-19-Frequently-Asked-Questions.pdf). Which include the following clarifications
    • Clubs can accept new registrations but these skaters may not begin their programming at this time. Reference - Question 2: "A single team is defined as a pre-established group of individuals that has been getting together on a weekly regular/seasonal ongoing basis for their organized activity. The formation of new teams/groups must be postponed for now. This directive will be regularly re-assessed."
    • Skaters can only skate within one (1) club: Reference Question 2: "Each respective organization must limit their activities so that individual members only take part in one consistent group of the organization during the Orange phase. For an individual who is a member of more than one organization that holds weekly activities, he or she should consider limiting their number of social interactions but may continue their activities in both organizations."
  • We are receiving questions pertaining to ice shows and whether they will be allowed. We understand that ice shows are important fundraisers for some clubs but we cannot predict whether or not they will be allowed to take place. At this time, we would like to advise all clubs to consider applying for Relief funding that is available via the Sport and Recreation Branch (Regional Consultant). Applications must be submitted by January 22nd. A detailed communication was sent to Clubs on January 13th.

Stay safe everyone.
