As we at SCNB continue to wash our hands, stay at home and physically distance ourselves, we want to further ensure the health and safety of our membership. Consequently, we have decided to cancel the following events:
- Seminar with Yvan Desjardins - May 2 & 3 in Moncton
- NCCP Club Coach Training - May 16-18, Fredericton
- SCNB Awards Banquet - May 23, Dieppe
These decisions are not easy to make and not fun to communicate. We hope to reschedule these events but it is too early to provide any further information.
We continue to encourage you to consult the Skate Canada COVID-19 website.
Although our skaters are not on the ice, Clubs and Skating Schools can still manage their affairs. This said, Skate Canada suggests the following for Club AGMs: "Clubs and skating schools are encouraged to hold their AGM virtually/online. There are many virtual meeting platforms available. Webex is offering free services on their platform (up to 100 participants) to help organizations get through this difficult time.
For online voting, Skate Canada uses Simply Voting. Simply Voting is a web-based online voting system that will help you manage your elections easily and securely. However, there are many other platforms available that offer similar services and we encourage our clubs and skating schools to explore options."
In terms of business interruption insurance for clubs/schools, unfortunately there is none due to COVID-19. From Skate Canada: "Business interruption coverage does not cover interruptions caused by COVID-19. Business interruption coverage is when the suspension is caused by a direct physical loss, damage, or destruction to the property.
The Government of Canada has launched a COVID-19 Economic Response Plan to support for Canadians and businesses. You can find more information about this program here."
For Coaches, examples of questions answered on the Skate Canada website are:
- With the closures of rinks/arenas, does my coach insurance cover for loss of income due to COVID-19?
- Can coaches collect Employment Insurance (EI)?
- I am a coach and cannot complete my first aid training due to the courses not being available. Will I be listed as ‘Not in Good Standing’?
As always, please follow Public Health agencies, Provincial and Federal government and Skate Canada instructions.
